Established in October 1992 by President Samuel O. Thier as the Brandeis Legacy Circle, with 235 Charter Members, the group for legacy donors was later renamed to honor Dr. Abram L. Sachar, the first president of Brandeis University.
Since its founding in 1948, Brandeis has benefited from the vision and commitment of individuals who have included the University in their estate plans. Currently, more than 600 alumni, friends, and members of the Brandeis community have joined the Sachar Legacy Society.
The Sachar Legacy Society honors and recognizes individuals who have documented their legacy gift with Brandeis. These donors to Brandeis realize the merit and strength of gifts that will provide for the future of this young institution of higher learning. Members of the Sachar Legacy Society receive invitations to special events and updates on university giving news.
The Office of Planned Giving requests documentation of the planned gift; for example, a copy of the pertinent provisions of the individual's will or trust, a copy of the life insurance policy that names the University as a beneficiary, or a letter from the individual's attorney stating that he or she has, indeed, included Brandeis in his or her estate plans. Upon receipt of such documentation, participants are enrolled in the Sachar Legacy Society.
We are deeply grateful for these gifts and know they will enhance the programs and support the people who are part of this great university.
