A charitable remainder unitrust can help you maintain or increase your income while making a significant gift.
Each year, an annuity trust pays you a set dollar amount that you choose when you fund the trust. Your payments stay the same, regardless of fluctuations in trust investments.
Each year, a unitrust pays you a variable amount based on a fixed percentage of the fair market value of the trust assets. Your payment amount is redetermined annually. If the value of the trust increases, so do your payments. If the value decreases, however, so will your payments.
A charitable remainder trust could be right for you if:
- You want to provide income for yourself or others.
- You want to save income taxes or capital gains taxes.
- You want to make a generous gift to Brandeis. To fund a charitable remainder unitrust, your gift must be $200,000 or more.
